1. What
is HGH?
HGH, the Human Growth Hormone, is naturally secreted by the pituitary
gland, and is responsible for growth during childhood and cellular
well-being throughout life. For more information on HGH and its
benefits, click on our HGH page.
2. Is there a difference between injected and
oral HGH?
Yes. While you can buy oral doses of HGH, taking HGH orally will
cause it to break down in the stomach. HGH injections are currently
the only effective way to maximize its benefits.
3. What is a nutritional assessment?
It's a highly detailed report that evaluates your health status.
It includes your lab work results which contain the concentrations
of your body's key hormones and other chemicals. These concentrations
allow your physician to determine if you are in the normal or
'optimal' range. A nutritional assessment can help predict and,
in turn, help prevent future medical problems, and determine which
organ systems may be responsible for how you feel. It discusses
in detail your metabolic state and your physician will use it
to determine what diet, menus and recipes work best with your
blood type. It will also be used to determine which supplements
and vitamins will be most beneficial for you.
4. Can I get a nutritional assessment without
joining your anti-aging program?
Yes, nutritional assessments can be purchased separately.
5. Are anti-aging services covered by insurance?
Insurers are geared more toward treatment of disease than preventive
medicine. However, some of the labs may be covered by insurance.
6. How long before I see results?
Some people feel results within days, but you should allow yourself
3-6 months to fully experience all the benefits of your anti-aging
program.
7. Why do I need to see a physician before
starting a program? Can't I just take vitamins?
Having a qualified physician ensures that you will receive the
proper lab tests and a thorough nutritional assessment. The physician's
analysis of your results will allow you to know, specifically,
which vitamins, supplements and diet will be most beneficial for
you.
8. Is this a lifelong program? Once I start
do I have to continue forever?
This is something you do for yourself for the rest of your life.
If you choose to discontinue your program you will not experience
accelerated aging. Your body will simply begin to age again at
its normal rate.
9. How do I choose an anti-aging physician?
In choosing an anti-aging physician there are a few questions
you should ask yourself: How does the physician look? What is
this physician's primary care experience? Is this physician a
member of the A4M (American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine)? Does
this physician have Preventive Medicine experience? How long has
this physician been practicing anti-aging medicine? How patient-specific
is this physician's anti-aging program? Is this physician conveniently
located? Can I afford this physician's program? And can I develop
a rapport with him/her?
10. What is involved in hormone replacement
therapy?
Hormones are chemical messengers that control bodily functions.
Aging depletes the body's hormonal levels. We measure a patient's
hormonal levels and prescribe balanced hormone replacement to
restore those levels to where they were in the patient's early
30s. In a lot of cases we can do this naturally with secretogogues,
which release the hormones already made by the body.
11. What kind of anti-aging supplements do
you prescribe?
As we age, we develop deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. A
complete, balanced nutritional multi-vitamin, mineral and anti-oxidant
complex is a major part of the treatment regime. What we prescribe
is different than something you can pick up at a health food store,
because it is tailored just for your needs.
12. How does anti-aging differ from wellness
and holistic medicine?
For the most part, wellness and holistic medicine don't deal in
conventional therapies. Anti-aging medicine, however, is a comprehensive
practice of preventive medicine that incorporates specific components
of holistic and wellness medicine, but goes beyond them with board-certified
physicians utilizing specific high-tech testing procedures and
medical treatments.
13. Can you reverse the aging-process? Can
you make someone young again?
We can make you feel and function young again. We can restore
muscle-loss, increase skin thickness, reduce total body fat and
improve bone density. Patients have reported specific improvements
in skin tightness and moisture, mental speed and clarity, enhanced
sexual function, elevated mood and energy levels, improved aerobic
capacity, greater immune function and increased wound healing
capacity.
14. Who are your patients? Is this just for seniors and retirees?
Who would benefit from this most? When is it too late?
It's almost never too late. However, the sooner you begin, the
more benefits you derive from an improved quality of life. The
people who benefit most are those who are motivated to stay healthy
in their later years.
15. What is hormone modulation?
Hormone modulation is the science of optimizing hormones that
are no longer being adequately produced by the body. Genetically
speaking, nature brings us to the point of reproduction and nurturing,
and after that stage our bodies begin to fail. In fact, much of
aging can be seen as deficiencies in many of the substances that
our bodies once produced in abundance. The goal of hormone management
is to modulate our hormones to the levels at which our immune
systems are the strongest, our metabolisms the most efficient
and our ability to build muscle, not fat, is the greatest.
16. Is Growth Hormone safe? Will it make things
"grow"?
Human Growth Hormone is safe in therapeutic doses. Among its many
functions is that of repairing and regrowing tissue. When a person
reaches maturity, Growth Hormone is important for cell revitalization
and repair. Cells cannot repair, maintain and heal properly in
its absence. While HGH is sometimes used to help stimulate height
in children who are pituitary dwarfs, it does not make an adult
grow taller. There has been absolutely no correlation between
therapeutic doses of HGH, such as those given in our programs,
and cancer of any kind. Quite the contrary. HGH has proven to
be extremely helpful in strengthening the immune system, increasing
mental acuity and focus, and preventing the onset of diseases
usually associated with aging.
17. Can I start a comprehensive hormone modulation
and nutraceutical supplementation program without leaving my hometown?
Absolutely! We can consult with you on the phone and make house
calls if needed. Call (410) 992-0011 today to get started!
18. What role does the patient's primary care
provider play?
We are a consultant to the primary care provider. We're here to
augment their practice.
19. How is your program different from other
programs?
Ours is a medically supervised program. It is designed by a doctor
who has post graduate training in preventive medicine. It is affordable
and entirely customized for each patient. Very few anti-aging
doctors have a Master's degree from Harvard and additional post-doctoral
training in Preventive Medicine from Johns Hopkins, as well as
being booard certified in the full-spectrum medical specialty
that is Family Practice. In short, our program encompasses all
the aspects of the other programs and much more.
